dunes
These are images from the Great Sand Dunes National Park in southern Colorado. It is an extreme environment. The wind often blows sand at great velocities and can turn an unprotected camera lens into frosted glass. During the brightest times of day, if the sky is clear, the dunes appear flat and uninteresting. During early or late light though, when the shadows are long, I like to wander around among them. Out in the dunes my mind wanders. The shapes and low light evoke otherworldly feelings. Making these images is a bit like rendering dreams from fantasy to reality.
